Turiyananda has been practicing meditation and yoga for 25 years and has spent over 15 years in residential immersion undertaking a complete yoga sadhana, delving into the intricacies of meditation, Self-inquiry, mantra, sacred texts, chanting and service.
His spiritual journey has been shaped by the profoundly mystical and tantric teachings on Consciousness of Kashmir Shaivism, the wisdom of Chinese Medicine, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, and the great beings. He is passionate about sharing these teachings and practices, and has been offering shiatsu massage and healing for more than 15 years.
Swami Turiyananda's academic background in Advanced Science at Sydney University provided him with a foundation in understanding the nature of the physical world. However, a longing for something more profound – the realms of energy, consciousness, and ultimate happiness – propelled him towards the path of spirituality.
He practiced a variety of paths, including Iyengar Yoga, Buddhist Meditation, and became a dedicated Ashtanga Yoga practitioner. This journey led him to silent mindfulness breath meditation retreats in Asia and months of Ashtanga study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India, before returning to Australia. In Melbourne he took Reiki initiation and then trained in Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies at the Australian Shiatsu College, which opened him up to the world of energy and healing, and launched him as a shiatsu practitioner.
Dissatisfied with the merely physical nature of his yoga practice and the dryness of meditation, he wanted something more and continued to look for a teacher who could guide him.
He started to meet great yogis and saints, culminating with a profound and transformative spiritual awakening from his guru MM Swami Shankarananda, a meditation and shaktipat master. This awakening ignited a deep mystical journey within him and brought his inner world to life.
In 2012, Turiyananda committed his life to spirituality and yoga, dedicating himself to serving and uplifting others, in taking initiation as a swami in the lineage of Bhagavan Nityananda, the powerful and mysterious great yogi who settled in Ganeshpuri, India.
Currently residing at The Ashram in Mount Eliza, he supports people in going deeper, and awakening to their true nature - the inner Self.
He loves guiding people into an experience of meditation, where they find some relief from the stresses of life and have a taste of the peace, energy and inspiration within. His deeply loving and compassionate nature emanates from his practice of meditation and Self-inquiry, which he believes can bring radical insight, upliftment and transformation to our lives.
With years of training and practice, Swami Turiyananda brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of yoga to his teaching. He has a genuine desire to serve others, and a heartfelt wish to help everyone be uplifted and connect with our own divine potential.
